Highland Mountains-Inspired Wedding Photos

Big sky landscapes inspire me, especially at sunset. This recent bride reached out shortly after their wedding wanting more photos of her and her husband in their wedding attire, and she really wanted that Scottish Highlands vibe. I captured their engagement session, but not their wedding, so I was thrilled to do a creative shoot with them and they brought some super fun props along!

Mountain skyscape at sunset

We aimed for sunset, but since nobody could predict the actual weather, the evening turned out a bit cloudy. This location is also about an hour from Calgary, and as you get closer, there’s no cell service, so sometimes you really just have to go for it! For me, that’s the fun of being creative. I love a good moody session, and I definitely went a bit darker with these, but the photos turned out stunning. It was late October, and the weather was bringing in snow, creating a dramatic sky!

One of my favourite mountain locations

Big Hills in Kananaskis is one of my favourite mountain locations, especially in the summer or fall. It does get busy but I’ve always found that other photographers are respectful and give each other proper space. I usually create a couple of dates in the fall for sessions so I can shoot a few families at once. These sessions are a minimum of 45 minutes, to allow for warming up and play time! They are some of my favourite sessions.
